32,916 new teaching positions OK’d

MANILA, Philippines — With classes in public schools scheduled to begin on June 8, the Department of Education yesterday announced that DepEd had secured 32,916 additional teaching positions.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara said this would benefit learners from Kindergarten to Senior High School and the Alternative Learning System.

Angara said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the DepEd’s request for the creation of additional teaching positions, lowering the learner-to-teacher ratio and improving classroom instruction.

“Our request for these positions has been granted by the DBM, expanding our teaching force so that our educators can focus on what they do best – nurturing the minds of our learners,” Angara said. “This is a critical step in giving schools the structural support needed to deliver quality education.”

Out of the newly created items, there are 32,047 Teacher I positions, 369 Special Science Teacher I positions and 500 Teacher IV positions for Special Needs Education.
