MANILA, Philippines —  Imported live animals from Greece are banned following confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth disease, according to the Department of Agriculture.

The DA said skeletal muscle meat, live swine, bovines and untreated milk are banned.

Processed goods deemed “safe commodities” per international standards may still be permitted under strict conditions.

Shipments in transit before the circular took effect may enter the Philippines if produced or slaughtered by Feb. 28.

On April 6, Greece reported cases of the disease in domestic sheep in Lesvos.

“This circular is a critical and proactive step to shield our country from the potentially devastating effects of foot-and-mouth disease,” Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said.
