Free jeepney rides in Manila resume

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila government resumed yesterday the free jeepney rides in the city, Mayor Isko Moreno said.
Moreno said 3,377 commuters have benefited so far from the free rides.
He said 218 public utility jeepney drivers joined the libreng sakay program, which started on March 30.
Moreno initiated the program to pay jeepney drivers a fixed income of P3,500 per day.
The local government has allocated P20 million for the program, distributing P4 million for the daily operations of jeepney drivers.
The free rides in Manila will be implemented until tomorrow.
Marikina to deploy free e-jeep rides
In Marikina, the city government will launch free e-jeep rides to help residents cope with rising transportation costs.
Mayor Maan Teodoro said the initiative aims to provide additional transport options for commuters.
City hall will initially deploy six e-jeeps, which can transport up to 24 passengers each.
