MANILA, Philippines — The first phase of the EDSA rehabilitation is on track for completion by May, the Department of Public Works and Highways said yesterday.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the project’s first phase is 60 percent complete.

The carriageway from Roxas Boulevard to Orense in Makati will be finished by May, Dizon said at a press conference of the Metro Manila Council.

“We’re on track. In fact, we’re ahead. The carriageway will be finished before the start of the rainy season,” Dizon told reporters. “It would be hard to work on it during rainy days.”

Dizon said the bidding for the second phase of the EDSA rehabilitation is ongoing.

He admitted that the works will slow down during the rainy season.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager Nicolas Torre III assured the public that the MMDA has been coordinating with the DPWH for traffic management.
