BOC remits P102 million from Discaya car auctions

MANILA, Philippines — Over P102 million collected from the auctions of nine luxury cars of the detained Discaya contractors have been turned over by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to the Bureau of the Treasury.
Proceeds can be used to boost national coffers amid rising fuel prices due to the Middle East conflict, the BOC said yesterday.
“If we collect less (duties and taxes) because of the oil crisis, then we should have alternative sources of revenue for the country,” Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said.
Up for auction on March 17 are 25 luxury cars, which the BOC hopes will generate P700 million.
Among the 25 luxury cars are the four remaining vehicles of contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya and 21 cars seized from Philippine offshore gaming operators.
