Duterte thanks Chinese embassy

For funding Mindoro covered court
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte has thanked the Chinese embassy for funding the construction of a covered court in Pola, Oriental Mindoro.
Duterte said the embassy filled the gap in the required resources for infrastructure without funding under the budget of the Department of Education or the Office of the Vice President.
Duterte attended the inauguration of the covered court wherein she acknowledged the contribution of the Chinese embassy through Ambassador Jing Quan.
“I was telling the ambassador earlier that we are truly grateful since the Department of Education, we are not allowed to allot a budget for covered courts. We all know that our infrastructure are only limited to laboratories, classrooms, which are all related to in-classroom learning,” said Duterte, who resigned as DepEd chief in 2025.
She said the Chinese embassy and the Filipino-Chinese Youth Foundation Committee Inc. recognized the need of Philippine schools for safe spaces for physical activities of learners outside of the classroom.
