MANILA, Philippines — Ahead of the Jan. 9 traslacion, a Black Nazarene replica will be paraded around 15 barangays in Quiapo, Manila from Jan. 1 to 6.

Quiapo Church officials said the religious image’s replica would be displayed at villages excluded from the annual procession’s route.

The “barangay visitation” will start in Barangay 309 and end in Barangays 393 and 394 before returning to Quiapo Church.

Aside from overnight vigils, masses and catechism are included in the event’s daily schedule.

On Jan. 9, Nazarene devotees will march from the Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.

On Tuesday night, around 8,000 people attended the Black Nazarene thanksgiving procession, according to the Philippine National Police.

Last year’s traslacion drew more than eight million devotees.

The Manila Police District will enforce an anti-balaclava ordinance prohibiting devotees from wearing face covers such as masks during the traslacion. — Ghio Ong
