DepEd promotes 16,025 teachers

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 16,025 teachers nationwide have been promoted, with 41,183 more processed and transmitted to the Department of Budget and Management, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced yesterday.

The promotion is in line with a commitment of President Marcos that no teacher will retire as Teacher 1.

In his speech during the observance of World Teachers’ Day, Marcos said that Republic Act 12288 or the Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act ensures a wider and clearer career pathway for teachers.

The DepEd, under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara, implemented the Expanded Career Progression system.

The agency said all regions reported processed appointments, indicating a broad early uptake of the career structure introduced under the Marcos administration.

Records showed that of the 41,183 teachers lined up for promotion, 18,007 are set to achieve the maximum three-salary grade leap.

Up to 29,017 advanced by one or two salary grade levels as DepEd continues to clear backlogs and process mobility across the teaching force.

Of the three-step advancement, 3,171 moved up from Teacher I to Teacher IV, 3,374 from Teacher II to Teacher V and 11,462 from Teacher III to Teacher VI.

There are also 16,883 Teacher I who will be promoted to Teacher III. 

The National Educators Academy of the Philippines will expand its training and leadership preparation programs to sustain the reform.

Teacher I nearing retirement will be prioritized for reclassification or promotion.

The DepEd also recognized workers and officials of schools division and regional offices including human resource management officers, teachers’ credential evaluators, and members of the human resource merit promotion and selection board.
