2 elderly siblings die in Quezon landslide

MAUBAN, Quezon, Philippines — Two elderly siblings were confirmed dead after a landslide buried their house on Sunday in Sitio Aluhin Maliit, Barangay San Lorenzo here.

Police said the house was buried under collapsing soil at 8:40 p.m., following continuous heavy rainfall in the area over the weekend.

Rescuers recovered the body of Leon Ismael, 62, and his sister Divina Sangcap, 69, yesterday.

Although both were rushed to the Mauban District Hospital, they were declared dead on arrival.

Police said two other victims, Teddy Trinidad and wife Roslyn, survived the landslide and are recuperating in a hospital.

Maj. Hubert Jabrica, Mauban police chief, urged residents in landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant, especially during prolonged heavy rains.
