900 Bilibid inmates cast votes

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 900 inmates of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa exercised their right to vote yesterday.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia visited the NBP and witnessed the inmates cast their votes.
Garcia was accompanied by international observers, personnel from the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and Muntinlupa election officers.
“I am glad that more or less 900 inmates from the NBP’s maximum security compound voted,” Garcia said.
BuCor data showed that 4,125 inmates nationwide were qualified to vote.
In Manila, more than 600 detainees at the city jail voted yesterday.
Comelec personnel supervised the voting in 12 polling precincts at the city jail.
