Go aids workers in Pampanga

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go has partnered with the municipal government of Sta. Rita in Pampanga to provide support and employment opportunities to its displaced workers.

Addressing 742 struggling workers in a covered court in Barangay Basilio on Thursday, Go stressed the need for the government to pursue more programs to generate job opportunities.

To address the issue of unemployment in rural areas, Go filed Senate Bill 420, which aimed to institutionalize the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP)  of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The proposed legislation seeks to provide temporary employment to those affected by economic hardships, including the impoverished and displaced workers, as well as those reliant on seasonal jobs. If enacted into law, REAP would be a significant step toward alleviating economic difficulties for many Filipinos.

During Go’s visit, grocery packs, snacks, vitamins and face masks were distributed to the workers. There were select recipients of balls for basketball and volleyball, bicycles, mobile phones, shoes and watches.

Meanwhile, DOLE conducted an orientation as part of its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged / Displaced Workers or TUPAD program to qualified recipients.

Former president now Pampanga second district Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo hosted the activity. Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, former congressman Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, Pampanga Gov.  Delta Pineda, Mayor Arthur Salalila, Vice Mayor Mercedita Carreon and other local officials attended the activity.
