Quezon City: Face to face class suspension policy only for basic ed

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government’s policy on automatic class suspensions due to extreme heat only covers public elementary and high schools.

Students were confused yesterday after some reports claimed that classes in “all levels in public schools” in the city would shift to alternative delivery modes after the heat index forecast reached 42 degrees Celsius.

Based on the policy released by the Schools Division Office of Quezon City last April 3, public elementary and high schools in the city will automatically implement alternative delivery modes such as online and modular learning if the heat index forecast reaches 40 degrees Celsius.

The heat index advisory will come from the city’s iRiseUP System, which consolidates various data and technologies to provide real-time weather updates to early warning systems, among others.

Private schools and tertiary institutions are not covered by the policy, with their respective administrators given the power to suspend in-person classes in case of extreme heat.
