MANILA, Philippines — Various agencies of the national government will rehabilitate the San Juan River through the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s neighborhood upgrading program.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos along with Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Acuzar, acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora and representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources inspected yesterday the banks of the San Juan River in Barangay Batis.

The inspection aims to determine the scope of the MMDA’s plan for the San Juan River easements, according to Zamora.

The development site was the abandoned linear park of the former Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission.

The neighborhood upgrading project is part of the MMDA’s environmental program. The agency partners with local governments to clean up and improve the banks along the Pasig River and its tributaries.

Zamora also thanked the MMDA for funding the rehabilitation of the El Polvorin linear park.
