MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) has asked the Supreme Court (SC) to reverse its decision that voided the proclamation of Romeo Jalosjos Jr. as representative of the first district of Zamboanga del Norte.

In August, the SC ordered the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to declare Roberto Uy Jr. as the rightful winner in the 2022 congressional race in Zamboanga del Norte’s first district.

In a 20-page motion filed in behalf of the Comelec and dated Nov. 5, the OSG said there was a lack of merit and jurisdiction by the SC over the case.

The Comelec initially proclaimed Jalosjos winner in the 2022 elections after it declared a certain Frederico “Kuya Jan” Jalosjos as a nuisance candidate.

The poll body credited all of Frederico’s votes to Jalosjos.

Uy was originally ahead of Jalosjos by a margin of 482 votes.

Jalosjos won after the Comelec credited to him the 5,424 votes that Frederico received during the polls.

The OSG said the case should have been under the jurisdiction of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal.
