BuCor’s legal counsel is new deputy chief
MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Corrections legal counsel Al Perreras is BuCor’s new deputy director general.
Perreras, a lawyer by profession, was appointed by President Marcos Jr. on July 19, replacing former BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag. Perreras’ appointment letter was released by the BuCor on Friday.
In a press briefing, Department of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said he and BuCor director general Gregorio Catapang Jr. recommended Perreras to the post. The bureau is under the DOJ.
“He’s an excellent lawyer,” Remulla told reporters in Filipino.
Prior to his appointment, Perreras served as the legal counsel of BuCor.
In 2014, he was appointed as the chief legal adviser to the military and the defense department.
Before his appointment as Armed Forces of the Philippines judge advocate general, Perreras served as the judge advocate general of the Philippine Navy.
Perreras entered military service in 1985 after receiving his law degree from the San Beda College of Law in 1984. He held various positions in the Office of the Judge Advocate General.
