The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go, chairman of the Senate committee on health, attended the groundbreaking of a Super Health Center in Libertad, Misamis Oriental on Friday.

The event was held in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) and municipal government of Libertad to bring vital healthcare services closer to Filipinos, especially in remote areas.

The establishment of Super Health Centers in strategic locations across the country is part of Go’s advocacy to improve the healthcare sector and ensure that disadvantaged Filipinos have access to basic medical services.

Funds had been allocated for the construction of 307 Super Health Centers last year and 322 this year. As the lead implementing agency, the DOH identifies the areas where the health facilities will be constructed.

In Misamis Oriental, funds were allocated to construct Super Health Centers in Gingoog City, Binuangan, Balingasag, Claveria, Initao and Tagoloan aside from the one in Libertad.

Cagayan de Oro will have a total of six Super Health Centers, with two located in Barangay Balubal and one each in Barangays San Simon, Carmen, Gusa and Kauswagan.

Super Health Centers offer essential services such as database management, outpatient care, birthing, isolation, diagnostics (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical units. It also provides specialized services such as eye, ear, nose and throat care; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation centers, and telemedicine.

Following the ceremony, Go and his team proceeded to the Libertad municipal gymnasium where they distributed food packs, face masks, vitamins, shirts and meals to 1,000 indigent residents in the town.

Go gave away bicycles, cellphones, shoes, a watch, caps, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals.
