Metro mayors OK single ticketing system

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has approved the final draft of the single ticketing system in the National Capital Region, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced yesterday.

Zamora, who chairs the MMC, said Metro Manila mayors gave their go-signal for the implementation of the unified ticketing system.

The MMC is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

“There was a motion for approval. It was duly seconded and there was no objection,” Zamora said at a press briefing.

Members of the technical working group of the MMDA, Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the MMC met yesterday to iron out the details of the single ticketing system.

The meeting was held at the San Juan city hall.

Zamora said they are eyeing to implement the single ticketing system this year, possibly within the first quarter.

Under the unified ticketing scheme, the MMDA and LTO will tag the digital records of erring motorists to ensure they would not be able to renew their driver’s license.

Violators may pay traffic fines online.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said after a series of consultations with local government units and the transport sector, the agency finalized the standard fines to be imposed on motorists for violations such as disregarding traffic signs, illegal parking and number coding scheme.

“The single ticketing system will resolve some issues raised in the NCAP (no-contact apprehension policy) petition,” Artes said.
