DMW: No Pinoy injured in Indonesia floods

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — There were no overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) injured or affected by the heavy rain and flashfloods that struck Indonesia, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported yesterday.

Citing an initial report from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Singapore, the DMW said no Filipino was injured in the floods that hit South Sulawesi province last week.

The MWO is working with the Philippine embassy in Jakarta and the Philippine consulate general in Manado in monitoring the condition of the OFWs in Indonesia.

Community leaders in Makassar City said they were not affected by the floods caused by severe weather disturbance in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency previously reported that 15 people died following heavy rainfall, massive floods and landslides.

The DMW also reported that the Filipino couple injured during a landslide in Hong Kong are now out of danger.

The woman, who suffered head injuries, has been discharged from the hospital. Her husband, who suffered a leg injury, underwent surgery and remains confined in the hospital.

The couple received financial assistance from the DMW.

The department also reported that there were no reports of injuries among OFWs in Taiwan, which was hit by earthquakes on Monday.
