Family of 10 dead in Muntinlupa fire
MANILA, Philippines — A family of 10, including a five-month-old baby, died when a fire broke out at a residential area in Muntinlupa City yesterday morning.
In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze that razed a house at Bruger Subdivision along Larva street in Barangay Putatan started at around 8:52 a.m.
The BFP said the fire reached the first alarm at 8:56 a.m. and was declared under control after 20 minutes.
According to Muntinlupa fire marshal Supt. Eugene Briones, the fatalities, who were trapped in the house, were related to one another.
“Confirmed po na magkaka-pamilya ang mga biktima at nakuha na po mga katawan nila, (We have confirmed that they are all family members and their bodies have been retrieved),” Briones said. “They attempted to escape but failed because the windows of the house have steel grills.”
Briones said among the bodies recovered at the scene was that of a woman, who was still holding her child.
“The mother was still hugging her five-month-old baby,” he said.
Another fatality was found under a sink in the toilet, Briones said.
Arson probers said they have yet to establish the cause of the fire, which originated in the kitchen.
The fire spread to two other houses in the area.
