12 BIFF men surrender
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Two leaders of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and 10 of their followers surrendered to the military on Wednesday.
Anwar Pegas, a sub-leader of the BIFF-Karialan faction, and his deputy Zukarno Sailila and their followers surrendered to Lt. Col. Edwin Alburo, 40th Infantry Battalion (IB) commander, in Barangay Kabengi, Datu Saudi Ampatuan town.
Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Western Mindanao Command chief, said the militants turned over seven rifles, two 9mm submachine guns, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, two M79 grenade launchers and a 40mm high explosive RPG ammunition.
Rosario said the surrender was a result of the efforts of the 40th IB, Maguindanao provincial government and local police. – John Unson, Ralph Edwin Villanueva
