MMDA launches traffic management summit
MANILA, Philippines — With traffic congestion expected to worsen in the metropolis, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday launched a traffic summit.
The MMDA said the summit aims to formulate a unified traffic management plan in the National Capital Region.
“With the easing of COVID restrictions in Metro Manila under Alert Level 1, we see an enormous increase in the number of vehicles along major thoroughfares, so expect traffic to worsen in the coming days,” MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said.
Artes said traffic plans and proposals would be consolidated to have a unified program to improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila.
He said representatives from government agencies, the private sector, transport groups and traffic bureaus of 17 local government units in the National Capital Region attended the summit.
The MMDA proposed traffic improvement plans, including the expansion of the number coding scheme and reimplementation of the motorcycle lanes along EDSA.
The MMDA will hold another traffic summit on March 22 and 24.
