Fire hits MPD crime lab

MANILA, Philippines — A fire struck the crime laboratory of the Manila Police District (MPD) yesterday morning.

According to MPD spokesman Capt. Philipp Ines, the fire broke out at the police headquarters along United Nations Avenue at around 9:45 a.m.

Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection and firefighters from volunteer groups responded to contain the blaze.

Personnel of the MPD crime laboratory were reportedly conducting an inventory of hazardous materials when the fire started.

Ines said the fire was declared under control at around 10:15 a.m.

No one was reported injured during the incident.

The fire did not destroy evidence kept in the crime laboratory, according to the MPD.
