Parties banned in Cebu hotel rooms

Mary Ruth Malinao - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has issued an executive order (EO) directing hotels and other accommodation establishments to prohibit private parties while a community quarantine remains in effect in the city.

“Following incidents of parties in hotel rooms which violate... minimum public health standards, there is a need to strictly monitor activities in hotels and accommodation establishments within the city,” Labella’s executive order read.

He cited an incident in Makati, where flight attendant Christine Dacera was found dead in a hotel room on Jan. 1.

The EO said only a limited number of guests should be allowed at a given time. The maximum number will depend on the floor area of the hotel room.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the establishments, visitors shall not be allowed to stay later than 8 p.m.

The EO also cited quarantine protocols on gatherings, wherein the number of participants shall not exceed 50 percent of the capacity of  the venues.

The police, military, city tourism and business permit and licensing offices, barangay officials and other concerned agencies are mandated to ensure the strict implementation of the EO.
