DPWH begins 180-day Roxas Boulevard rehab

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) advised motorists on Friday to brace for heavy traffic as it started repairing the northbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard.

Secretary Mark Villar said the DPWH secure clearance for 180 days of road reblocking and repair work from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to be conducted along segments of the boulevard.

Engineer Mikunug Macud of the DPWH South Manila District said they began repair “along portions of the outermost northbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard, starting at 50 meters from EDSA on the Pasay side, and another 50 meters from P. Ocampo street on the Manila side.”

“Roxas Boulevard is a 5.45-kilometer national road that serves as a major route of heavy vehicles daily particularly trucks going in and out of Manila Ports. That’s why its foundation deteriorates faster than regular roads, hence the need for rehabilitation,” he added.

The rehabilitation initially received an allocation of P20 million to cover the 530-meter segment from EDSA up to Libertad and another P40 million for the P. Ocampo street-Quirino Avenue segment.

Macud said once these segments are repaired, the other segments of Roxas Boulevard’s northbound lanes will be repaired as well as the boulevard’s four southbound lanes.
