MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese man and his female companion were arrested for illegal drugs after leading traffic enforcers on a car chase and hitting several vehicles in Binondo, Manila yesterday morning.

According to initial reports, a Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau enforcer tried to flag down a white Toyota Fortuner (NBT-7767) for violating the number coding scheme just before noon.

Instead of stopping Zhou Zhiyi, who was driving the vehicle, and his companion April Morato sped toward Abad Santos Avenue.

Zhou hit a tricycle, a car and a motorcycle and nearly ran over a traffic enforcer who tried to block his car at the corner of Tayuman street.

Though he was cornered, Zhou refused to get out of the vehicle and had to be carried out by police officers who responded to the incident.

Lawmen reported recovering a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu as they were inspecting the vehicle.

While being questioned, Zhou spat on the face of a policeman, who retaliated by banging the suspect’s head on the roof of his car.

Morato said she did not know the suspect personally as she was just brought to his condominium by a friend.

Police are preparing to file charges of assault on a person of authority, reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property and possession of illegal drugs against Zhou.
