LAGUNA, Philippines — A retired police officer was killed while an employee of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology was wounded in separate gun attacks in Calamba in this province on Saturday.

Nuluddin Saih Uddin, 66, was sitting in front of his house in Barangay Turbina, when a motorcycle pulled over at around 10:30 a.m.

The rider approached Uddin and shot him at close range several times, according to Lt. Col. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson for the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police.

Uddin died while being taken to the Calamba Medical Center.

Probers are eyeing a land dispute as the motive for the killing.

Meanwhile, Senior Jail Officer 4 Adan Emor, 44, and JO2 Cynthia Mallen were in a sport utility vehicle when unidentified gunmen waylaid them at around 5:25 p.m. along the boundary of Barangay Turbina and Barangay Real.

Emor was taken to the Calamba Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds.

Mallen was not harmed in the attack.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the attack and identify the suspects.
