4 supporters of Lanao del Sur mayoral bets hurt in clash
SALVADOR, Lanao del Norte, Philippines — Four supporters of rival candidates for mayor in this town were wounded in a shootout yesterday.
Maj. Glyndo Pujanes, town police chief, said the motorcade of Bebot Umpa Bangcola was passing near the municipal hall, where the supporters of Farhanie Tawantawa gathered, when jeers were heard, triggering a heated exchange.
Initial investigation showed the service vehicle of Bangcola was hit four times.
“A bullet pierced the passenger side of our vehicle hitting my aide on the shoulder and buttocks,” Bangcola, who was driving the vehicle, said.
Two of Bangcola’s supporters, one of them identified as Subaer Polao, was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Tawantawan’s husband Hassanor is the incumbent mayor of Salvador.
