LGUs remind public of firecracker ban
MANILA, Philippines — To ensure zero firecracker-related injuries, three local government units in southern Metro Manila warned residents to observe the ban on pyrotechnic devices and firecrackers during the New Year celebration.
Makati Mayor Abby Binay said the city ordinance that bans fireworks displays and pyrotechnic devices is still in effect in Barangays Bangkal, Pio del Pilar and Magallanes. Violators will be fined P5,000 or jailed for six months.
She said the ban came after Barangays Bangkal, Pio del Pilar and Magallanes were affected by the petroleum pipeline leak at West Tower in Bangkal in 2010.
Ordinances banning the manufacture, display, sale, distribution, possession or use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices are also in effect in Las Piñas and Muntinlupa.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District and Northern Police District reminded the public to use designated firecracker zones for their New Year celebrations and refrain from using prohibited firecrackers.
