Reds torch P7 million road equipment

Jennifer Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Five suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas burned P7.2 million worth of construction equipment in Sibalom, Antique on Friday.

The suspects barged into the bunkhouse of the F and J General Construction in Barangay San Juan shortly before midnight and poured gasoline into a backhoe and a multi-cab.

The suspects were reportedly wearing military uniform, according to Senior Inspector Adolfo Pagharion, Sibalom police chief.

Worker Jonathan Pacete said he and his six companions were asleep when the gunmen barged in.

Before fleeing, the suspects told the workers that their employer refused to pay “revolutionary taxes.”
