5 nabbed for illegal gambling

MANILA, Philippines - Five persons were arrested by police for playing a coin game in Taguig City on Tuesday.

Members of the Southern Police District caught Arturo Maglente Jr., 34; Nasser Omadan, 28; Harison Mangelen, 29; Oliver Cuarteros, 45, and Joseph Retrita, 35, playing cara y cruz at a covered court in Barangay Upper Bicutan at past 5 p.m.

Three 25-centavo coins, a slab of marble and P290 in cash were seized from them.

A resident tipped off police that a group of men was engaged in illegal gambling in the area.

The suspects were charged with illegal gambling under Presidential Decree 1602.
