Cop killed in ambush

URDANETA CITY, Philippines— A police officer died while his companion was wounded in an ambush along the highway in Barangay Nancayasan in this city here before dawn yesterday. 

Police Officer 3 Marman de la Cruz, 38, was driving a patrol car with Enzo Ruiz, 19, on their way to the police community precinct when they were waylaid. 

De la Cruz died while being treated at the Sacred Heart Hospital. Ruiz was brought to the Urdaneta Emergency Hospital and transferred to the Region 1 Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, said Superintendent Jeff Fanged, city police chief.

 Thirteen bullet shells for a .40-caliber pistol were recovered at the scene.
