North Cotabato village chief shot dead

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines – Unidentified men shot dead a barangay chairman in Pikit town on Tuesday.

Pexon Mangansakan of Barangay Silik and his wife were in their car on their way to the town proper when motorcycle-riding assailants opened fire.

Mangansakan died at the scene. His wife, Marela, was unhurt.

Superintendent Bernard Tayong, spokesman for the North Cotabato police, said witnesses saw the gunmen following Mangansakan’s vehicle.

The victim was the elder brother of Pikit Vice Mayor Don Mangansakan, who is running for mayor in the May elections.
