2 killed in rock slide in Samar

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons died and another two were injured in a rockslide in Calbayog City, Samar last weekend, a disaster management official said.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Executive Director Alexander Pama said the rockslide occurred at around 2 p.m. last Saturday in Purok 8, Barangay Cagnipa, Tinambacan District.

The fatalities were identified as Marivic Monteves and Danica Monteves while wounded were Danilyn Monteves and Diana Monteves.

Pama said a landslide occurred in Barangay Bugtong about 15 minutes after the rockslide but there were no casualties reported.

The incident, however, rendered the Maharlika highway from Calbayog to Allen impassable for a period of time. The road was declared accessible at around 6:45 p.m. on the same day.

Public works personnel, local government engineers, and soldiers have conducted clearing operations in landslide-hit areas. - Alexis Romero
