Man gets 140-year jail term for killing woman, 2 kids
LAGUNA, Philippines – A Laguna court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 140 years in prison for the killing of a woman and her two children in Lumban, Laguna in 2011.
Alexis Valenzuela was found guilty for killing Dolor Olarte, 39, and her children Kem, 13, and Arvie, 9.
Judge Jaime Blancaflor of the Santa Cruz regional trial court meted Valenzuela with 40 years imprisonment for each murder case, and 20-years for theft.
Aside from imprisonment, Blancaflor ordered Valenzuela to pay P1.4 million in actual damage; P50,000 in moral damage, and P20,000 in exemplary damage to Randy Olarte, the head of the family.
Blancaflor ordered the city jail warden to transfer Valenzuela to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Reports said Valenzuela was a relative of the victims and worked as an errand boy for the family. He reportedly owned up the crime including stealing P3,000 from them.
Records showed the victims were found with multiple stab wounds inside their home in Barangay Segunda Pulo two years ago.
