DPWH sets MM roads repair during Lenten break

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways will implement various reblocking works on damaged pavement along national roads in Metro Manila from Maundy Thursday (MArhc 27, 2013) to Easter Sunday (MArch 31, 2013).

In a statement, the DPWH said the road repairs will be undertaken during the Holy week  break to take advantage of low volume of vehicles on Metro Manila roads.

Secretary Rogelio L. Singson said repair of national road including portions of EDSA, the most heavily travelled highway in the National Capital Region, will follow the standard practice of lane-by-lane repair starting tomorrow, Holy Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. and with the concrete poured and cured, the road sections shall be opened to traffic before 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013.

EDSA reblocking activities in Caloocan City will cover northbound lane from Asuncion Street to MCU Hospital (lane 6) and southbound lane from Benin Street to Urbano Plata Street with the DPWH Third Metro Manila District Engineering Office supervising the contracted works of L.R. Tiqui Builders and Jagon Builders Construction Corporation, respectively.

In Quezon City, the Quezon City First Engineering District Office will closely  manage the repair works at the 5th lane of EDSA northbound from Congressional Avenue to Access Road under Rend Enterprises and General Construction and 5th lane of EDSA southbound from Cloverleaf to Oliveros Street under contract with Dimaguila Constrcuction and Supply.

DPWH First Metro Manila District Engineering Office will ensure quality completion of the repair works at EDSA Mandaluyong City specifically at northbound lane to end  of underpass under I.M. Construction Corporation and southbound lane under B. Bernardo Construction.

DPWH Second Metro Manila Engineering District Office will team up with AUKH Construction in working for the repair of EDSA Makati City northbound lane  from 7-Eleven near Estrella Footbridge to Guadalupe Bridge while the southbound segment from Guadalupe Bridge to San Carlos Seminary will be undertaken by Vivid Construction.

Repair works to be done at the EDSA Pasay City area particularly near pedestrian overpass at Dela Cruz Extension fronting BLTB and Victory Liner will be supervised by South Manila Engineering District Office.

Other road network in Metro Manila scheduled for replacement of damaged concrete pavement in order to strengthen further road stability and carrying capacity includes the Nicanor Reyes Street in Sampaloc, Manila from C.M. Recto to España; San Marcelino Steet, Manila from Remedios to President Quirino; North Avenue (westbound) infront of SM North EDSA and centerlane of crossing Mindanao and North Avenue, Quezon City; 1st lane of southbound portion of Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City from Road 8 to Road;  and northbound of Fairview Avenue, Quezon City  from Mindanao Extension to Milano Drive (4th lane).

Singson explained that road repairs are necessary to improve riding surface, reduce travel time and vehicle operating cost,  to address vehicle gas emission, and prolong the life of the road.

Singson said the DPWH National Capital Region will monitor all the scheduled repair activities.
