Cop wanted for attack on brod-in-law

MANILA, Philippines - A manhunt has been launched for a Caloocan City policeman allegedly involved in the failed attempt to kill his brother-in-law last week, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Leonardo Espina said yesterday.

Espina said Senior Police Officer 1 Melgan Lorenzo was listed as absent without leave (AWOL) with the Caloocan City police and apparently went into hiding after the slay try on 21-year-old John Roy Suzon.

“I have ordered a massive manhunt against Lorenzo. He should be arrested and made to answer for his wrongdoing,” Espina said in an interview.

Espina directed the Northern Police District (NPD) to coordinate with the local police of Rodriguez, Rizal for the filing of criminal charges against Lorenzo.

Suzon was bleeding from two gunshot wounds in the chest when he was found by village watchmen patrolling Barangay San Jose in Rodriguez at past 11 p.m. Thursday.

Suzon was rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center for treatment. He is listed in stable condition.

Superintendent Arthur Masungsong, Rodriguez police chief, said Suzon claimed that five armed men, including Lorenzo, kidnapped him in Pandacan, Manila.

The men hogtied and blindfolded Suzon, then shot him and left him for dead at a secluded area in Barangay San Jose.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, said he ordered police officers to secure Suzon to prevent Lorenzo and his cohorts from finishing him off.
