Fugitive in cop slay try arrested in Malabon

A fugitive in the failed slay try of a Quezon City policeman on New Year’s Eve two years ago was collared by intelligence agents while roaming freely in his neighborhood yesterday in Malabon.

Superintendent Maximino Valiente, District Police Intelligence Unit (DPIU) chief, identified the suspect as Garry Asedillo, 32, of Block 45-F, Lot 24, Phase 3E-2, Longos, Malabon.

Valiente, in a report to Northern Police District (NPD) director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, said Asedillo, together with one Ian Gallano, were issued a warrant of arrest the other day by Malabon RTC Branch 170 Judge Benjamin Antonio for frustrated murder.

Gallano remains scot-free and is now being hunted by Valiente’s men.

The two are on the police wanted list for assaulting PO1 Eric Dianco of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Asedillo and Gallano, armed with knives, a piece of wood and broken beer bottle ganged up on the officer during a drinking session on Dec. 31, 2004. Despite the several wounds sustained in different parts of his body, Dianco survived.

At 10 a.m. last Monday, Melanie Dianco, the officer’s wife, personally brought to the DPIU a copy of the arrest warrant on Asedillo, who was reportedly spotted in the Longos neighborhood.

With the information, Valiente sent a team led by SPO4 Pancho Labrador and went out to arrest the suspect. The suspect’s wife accompanied the operatives for identification of the suspect.

Asedillo is temporarily detained at the DPIU cell pending commitment to the city jail.
