Chinese nationals stopped at NAIA

Immigration authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport stopped yesterday a group of Chinese nationals to use Manila as a jump-off point for Europe, Canada and Australia using tampered passports of Hong Kong Special Autonomous Region (SAR).

Holders of passports issued by Hong Kong SAR are exempt from entry visa to Europe, Canada and Australia which explained the reason for the recent upsurge on the arrival of Chinese nationals into the country armed with tampered SAR passports.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Andrea Domingo, Demosthenes Demetria and Dennis Robles of the immigration’s monitoring unit at the NAAI’s Terminal II, said that they have discovered the new scheme of a Hong Kong- based human smuggling syndicate to deploy Chinese nationals to Europe, Canada and Australia by providing them with tampered SAR passports.
