Brgy to water firm: Give us income share

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Barangay Council of Lawaan III in Talisay City is asking assistance from the city government to get their revenue share from the Abejo Waters Corporation for extracting waters in their barangay.

Abejo Waters is a local company that supplies water to Metropolitan Cebu Water District. The company sources water from areas with underground reserves and injects the supply to the nearest MCWD pipeline.

The company's first contract with MCWD is a 4,000-cubic meter daily supply for Talisay City to serve 5,000 households.

In Barangay Resolution No. 24, the council said most of  the households of the barangay have their own water connection from the Abejo Builders Corporation.

"The Barangay Council wants to know how much is the fixed amount that the barangay may collect from Abejo Builders Corporation," the resolution, signed by Lawaan III Barangay Captain Delia Ybañez and the seven-member Council, read.

According to the resolution, only the MCWD gave their share to the barangay while the Abejo Builders did (or has) not.

"The barangay officials asked Abejo Builders Corporation to give their share since most of our households are consuming the water from Abejo Builders Corporation and they paid their water consumption regularly," the resolution further said.

Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante, Talisay City  Council's presiding officer, said he already referred the resolution to the committee on laws, which is chaired by Councilor Socrates Fernandez.  (FREEMAN)
