CEBU, Philippines - A truck driver who was drinking with his friends died after he was stabbed by a father and his son in Sitio Lupa, Barangay Basak San Nicholas in Cebu City past 11 p.m. yesterday.

Attending physicians declared Cerenio Torrevillas alias Sonny, 54, of Barangay Carreta dead after he sustained several stab wounds in his body.

Senior Police Officer 1 Ruth Violango, homicide section investigator, identified the suspects as Joemar Quijano and his father Eddie Quijano who is in his late 50s.

The victim and the suspects were neighbors, according to Violango.

The investigation revealed that the victim, together with three others, were drinking when Joemar passed by and said "Kamong upat ha, balik ko ninyo, ngita mog gubot?"

It is not yet clear what the victim and his companions might have told one of the suspects that prompted him to go home to get a knife and stab the victim.

"Di man sad mosulti ang pamilya sa biktima kung unsa toy gisulti sa upat, di gyud mahitabo nga ingon ana kung wala’y hinungdan," Violango added

Violango said several minutes after his warning, based on witness accounts, the suspect came back and stabbed the victim who was sitting.

A certain Jennifer Epogon and a security guard tried to stop the suspect but were instead attacked.

Moments later, Eddie bringing a bolo with him, stabbed the victim many times and then fled away, together with his son.

"Niabot man na iyang amahan… nagdala og sundang unya gitiwasan niya ang biktima," she said.

Torrevillas was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Responding units of  Mambaling Police and Basak San Nicholas tanods recovered a knife and a bolo at the crime scene, which were turned over to the homicide section. (FREEMAN)
