Quisumbing mum on political plans

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Sixth district Rep. Gabriel Luis Quisumbing has remained tight lipped on his plans for the 2013 elections.

“The elections are still more than a year away and therefore too early to talk about politics,” Quisumbing said.

He would rather talk about his projects. For now, he wants to make sure the flood control system in the district is in place before the rainy season sets in.

He also declined to say whether he was joining Mayor Jonas Cortes who is identified with the Liberal Party of President Benigno Aquino. Quisumbing had earlier expressed his support to President Aquino, as records in Congress would show.

But the legislator said Cortes and he are on talking terms and that they both share common goals although belonging to different political parties.

Quisumbing said there is a need to look ahead but that no one can tell how he will fare in next year’s polls.

Yesterday, Quisumbing turned over to barangay Subangdaku captain Ernie Manatad the phase 2 of the repair and rehabilitation project of the M. Logarta Road in the barangay worth P4 million. The budget comes from his Priority Development Assistance Fund.

In October last year, the legislator set aside P5 million of his PDAF to finance the phase 1 of the Logarta Road rehabilitation.

“We have been busy turning over projects these past few weeks as the rainy season is coming a few months from now.

The rainy season will set in before the campaign season starts.

“To be honest, I am more concerned with the flooding and concerned with the state of our national road network in the district,” Quisumbing said. (FREEMAN)
