AU Chiefs blast past SSC Stags

MANILA, Philippines — Killer instinct.
That was what the Arellano U Chiefs showed when they massacred the hapless San Sebastian Stags, 98-72, yesterday to launch their bid for a better finish in NCAA Season 102 at the Filoil Arena.
The Legarda-based dribblers stepped on the gas early, led by 12 after the opening quarter and 25 at halftime, and just never looked back in cruising to their first victory in a season that they hope would be an improvement from the previous campaign.
Last year, AU advanced to the playoff round after seven straight seasons of not making it past the elims.
The Chiefs lost to the Letran Knights in the quarterfinals but instead of drowning in grief, they looked at it as a ray of hope and used it as motivation to eclipse that feat.
And it showed on how they played against the Stags.
“The players gave their commitment for this year. We saw what we call a killer instinct,” said AU coach Chico Manabat.
The triumph sent AU to an early share of the lead with the opening day winners.
