That’s hat!

MANILA, Philippines - Needless to say, millinery is having its moment in Manila. Hats! (To wit, exclamation point.) Nothing says headgear-friendly occasions like the holiday season. Don’t pretend you don’t unearth your collection of printed scarves the minute a slight amihan hits the city.  As far as fair-weather accessories go, you could do better than a bargain bin pashmina. Why not sport a cloche for Christmas lunch? A close-knit chapeau for New Year’s Eve? A hood for a well-attended Hanukkah? A long, flowing mane of fox in the shape of a rugged trapper hat? Perfect for your casual bonfire in Baguio.

A boater for boating, a bowler for bowling. You get the picture.

This season, we’re all about capitalizing on decorated headspaces. Regardless of your coif, be it tressed long or short, hats need no longer be associated with your bad hair-care choices. The simple answer? A muss-free low-slung ponytail. At that end, not even the most-fitted of brims would knock you off your hair game. I mean, who doesn’t want to up their fashion game with a felt mustard newsboy cap with a poufy pompom on top. Right? Exactly.

Be it for a tropical escape to the Bahamas, a winter holiday in New York — or the rare grand family reunion in a rented poolside resort in Lower Antipolo (we’ve all been there), YStyle scours the shops for the chicest toppers in retail.
