‘San Pedro Calungsod: The Musical’ set

MANILA, Philippines - San Pedro Calungsod: The Musical, the life story of the country’s second saint who was canonized at the Vatican last Oct. 21, goes on-stage at the PETA Theater, New Manila on Nov. 17 and 28 at 7 p.m. with 4 p.m. matinees and at the Good Samaritan College in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija on Dec. 5, 6, and 7.

The musical is directed by Jose Christe G. Nombres who has worked with almost every major theater group in the country.  He is putting his technical knowledge of theater to work in this musical which features singer Gerald Santos as Pedro Calungsod together with the theater group MAT PIL. The book and lyrics are by Luigi Nacario and the original music by Eugene Belbis.

This musical on the life of San Pedro Calungsod is special to Nombres as he considers it a rare chance to help Filipinos everywhere understand what Calungsod’s life meant and why it continues to be relevant today as well as to reinforce the positive Filipino values that have been taken over by the advent of techbnology in today’s generation.
