MANILA, Philippines - The Congressional Spouses Foundation Incorporated (CSFI) led by its president QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte with chair for Arts and Information Mons Romulo and Paula Bondoc, in cooperation with Art Gallery Asia, held a successful art for charity titled “Sining Sa Kongreso 2” last Feb. 13 at the southwing lobby, House of Representatives, QC. The exhibition is a semi-annual fund raising activity of CSFI to finance various charitable projects for our unfortunate indigent fellow Filipinos.
The opening ceremony and cocktails were attended by noted personalities in politics, academe, creative community, media and art patrons in support for the CSFI project. An estimated 200 attendees marveled at the impressive art collection from the country’s National Artists to the up and coming contemporary artists mounted by Art Gallery Asia’s stakeholders Bong Versoza and Jerome Jemenez.
Gracing the art exhibition as ribbon cutters and art patrons were QC Mayor Herbert Bautista, Makati Mayor Jun-Jun Binay, Vice Mayor Gloria Ronquillo, Vice Mayor Francis Zamora, Rep. Gina de Venecia and respected sculptor Ed Castrillo.
The highlight of the exhibition was the sale of rare, never before seen by the public artworks like a 1960 oil on canvas of Fernando Amorsolo’s “Sunday Morning Going to Church,” Arturo Luz’s “Borobudur,” Ang Kiukok’s “Three Seated Men,” Elizalde Navarro’s “Face of Awakening God,” Jose Joya’s “Sarimanok,” and the solid narra wood titled “Singko Hermana” of Napoleon Abueva.
Among the favorite artworks that captured the interest of the patrons were sculptures of Ramon Orlina and Eduardo Castrillo; modern masters Tam Austria, Mario Parial, Onib Olmedo and Romulo Galicano; contemporary artists Antonio Leano, Emmanuel Garibay, Malyn Bonayog, Josue Mangrobang, Rene Cuvos, PJ Jalandoni, Winner Jumalon, Daniel dela Cruz and Marina Cruz.
