Wish upon a star with Pinocchio

Prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde takes centerstage in Pinocchio, a well-loved classic tale about a wooden puppet whose only wish is to become a real boy. This performance will take place on Sunday, December 21, at 6 p.m. at the Atrium of the SM Mall of Asia.

Pinocchio takes place in a small Italian village where Gepetto carves a wooden puppet from a piece of pine. Gepetto’s wish that he turn into a real boy can only be granted if Pinocchio proves himself to be brave, strong, and good. This begins Pinocchio’s adventures with his conscience Jiminy Cricket, to become a real boy.

Pinocchio first encounters the Blue Fairy when she saves him from the fox. It is she who tells him that it is his lies that are making his nose long.

In this play, Macuja takes on the role of the Blue Fairy who will grant Gepetto’s wish and make Pinocchio a real boy. “Personally, I believe that the greatest lesson to be learned from Pinocchio is that the willingness to sacrifice will ultimately result in the fulfillment of your wildest dreams,” she says about the play. “Every success story is a story about effort.”

This Ballet Manila performance is choreographed by Osias Barroso, one of the most versatile choreographers of our time, who Macuja says “has come of age in this production.”
