Cops nab 3 suspects in Tisa shooting that killed barber

CEBU, Philippines — Three suspects were arrested early Sunday, October 18, following a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Pardo, Cebu City in connection with the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old barber in Barangay Tisa.
The suspects were apprehended along Aznar Street by personnel of Police Station 10 (PS10), in coordination with the City Intelligence Unit (CIU), Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), and Police Station 7 (PS7).
Police recovered a blue Yamaha FZ motorcycle, a .45-caliber firearm loaded with four live rounds, and an improvised shotgun with one live shell during the operation.
Also recovered were a black Spyder full-face helmet, a violet-and-orange hooded sweatshirt, and a black-and-white jacket.
The arrests stemmed from the shooting of John Paul Dayopay, 25, a barber from Badian, Cebu, in sitio Mutra, Barangay Tisa on Friday night, October 16.
Police said Dayopay was shot outside his rented apartment. Barangay paramedics and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel attended to him before he was taken to Chong Hua Hospital for treatment, where he later died.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Police Colonel Ricky Sumalde underscored the importance of a swift, coordinated, and systematic response in solving serious crimes.
Sumalde said CCPO units worked together from the time the incident was reported until the three suspects were arrested, with the aim of securing justice for the victim and holding those responsible accountable.
He also warned those planning to commit crimes that they would not escape the law.
The suspects are undergoing documentation and disposition as police continue their investigation and gather evidence for the filing of appropriate charges. — /MRM (FREEMAN)
