PNP mobilizes units vs profiteering, hoarding

MANILA, Philippines — Hoarders and profiteers will be apprehended as the Philippine National Police has mobilized units to assist in keeping the prices of essential goods affordable.
“We have instructed all regional and provincial directors to coordinate closely with local government units and the Department of Trade and Industry offices in monitoring compliance,” acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said yesterday.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and local police units will lead operations against profiteering, he said.
“Overpricing and hoarding complaints will be probed and we will enforce the law,” Nartatez asserted.
Joint inspection teams were deployed to markets, groceries and warehouses to conduct thorough and random checks.
