MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau is monitoring cloud clusters and a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Obet Badrina yesterday said the LPA was spotted in the west.

“At present, there is still a small possibility that it will enter the country, but we will continue to monitor it,” Badrina said.

“We expect this [the cloud clusters] to develop into a low-pressure area and may enter PAR. It is possible that today or tomorrow, it will enter PAR,” he said.

Rains are expected in the western section of Luzon and the Visayas, in Palawan and the Kalayaan Group of Islands due to the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA expects at least 10 to 14 typhoons until October 2023.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old housewife died late afternoon on Sunday after lightning struck her in the municipality of Mangatarem, Pangasinan.

Regional police reported that Myrna Soriano from Barangay Tococ-Barikir was found lifeless by her brother under a mango tree as she took shelter during a heavy downpour.

In a separate incident, a 47-year-old man drowned while swimming with relatives in Bolinao, also in Pangasinan.
