MANILA, Philippines — The nationwide COVID-19 positivity rate is at 23.6 percent, OCTA Research said.

In a Twitter post on Saturday, OCTA fellow Guido David said OCTA was projecting 1,800 to 2,000 new cases yesterday.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Saturday 2,065 new cases.

Of the provinces and regions with the most new COVID-19 cases, Metro Manila logged the highest cases with 855 followed by Cavite (171), Rizal (128), Bulacan (104) and Laguna (94).

OCTA said on May 5 that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila could reach up to 25 percent, but the health care utilization in the capital region was not likely to reach critical levels.

The DOH also said the uptick does not translate to more hospital admissions, severe and critical cases and deaths.

2,109 more COVID cases

Meanwhile, the DOH yesterday reported 2,109 more COVID cases, bringing to 4,115,202 the total number of the highly infectious disease in the country.

Of the total number of confirmed COVID cases nationwide, 15,891 are active while 4,032,858 have recovered from the disease.

The number of those who succumbed to the infection remains at 66,453, the DOH reported.

The National Capital Region posted the most number of new cases in the last 14 days with 9,207, followed by Calabarzon with 4,911 and Central Luzon, 1,580.

The hospital bed occupancy rate rose to 20 percent while the cumulative positivity rate is at 13.5 percent. — Mayen Jaymalin
